From M.D.'S

GREETINGS

On behalf of the management and myself, I wish to convey the greeting to all our esteemed customers, well wishers and other members of the families for a

"HAPPY & PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR"

The year 2002 was the beginning for Praga to consolidate its strength and rejuvenate its energy for ultimate Goal of Turnaround.

We, at Praga, in all these months have never focused on the worry about lack and limitation of resources but faithfully, concentrated on solutions to our Production and Marketing problems and visualised the success.

We have already formulated our vision to make Praga - one of the best three Machine Tool Company of India by the year 2005. On this account, it is not far fetched to realise this vision as can be gauged from the report on bench marking for Machine Tool Industry carried out recently by the IMTMA-the apex body of the industry, which has indicated that with regard to Quality of the Machine and services, Praga is among the Best four Companies in the country and is also fairly placed at No.8 and 9 position in Technology / Design Development and information management respectively out of 21 companies surveyed in the country.

We are not complacent with the above results but will improve over the coming years and achieve our vision. In this direction, Praga for the first time has made headway in devising out a Marketing Plan - 2002 to 2007 which has given an impetus of W3 (Where We Were), W3 2B (Where We Want To Be), W2R (Where We Are) & w4 (Where We Went Wrong)

I believe that the year 2003 will show us a road to success and prosperity through productivity. Needless to say, it is not possible to achieve S_CCESS without U (customer) in the coming year 2003.

We once again reiterate that, we are committed to Customer Care with K3B (KABHIBHI, KAHIBHI, KAISEBHI) and provide unmatched services always.

- KISHAN MEHROTRA

WHEEL BALANCING on PRAGA's Surface Grinder and Cutter & Tool Grinder
Accessory required : Static Wheel Balancing Equipment

About Wheel Balancing

The external grinding wheels are mounted on flanges which can be readily withdrawn from the wheel spindle. Balance weights or wedges are fitted to the wheel flange by means of which the wheel is properly balanced. This is done before the sleeve carrying the wheel is fifted to the wheel spindle.

To fit a new wheel to the flange unscrew lock nut which has a left hand thread and withdraw flange. Remove existing wheel and fit a new wheel on to the fixed flange. Refit flange and screw tightly. The ensemble should then be fitted on the taper of the balancing mandrel supplied and placed upon a balancing tool for preference and parallel blocks. The wedges should then be loosened and moved until the wheel is perfectly balanced.
HOW TO BALANCE THE WHEEL

1. Securely lock wheel on to the flanges - Fix balance weights diametrically opposite. Dress the wheel.

2. Remove assembly from wheel head and mount on balancing mandrel - Place on balancing unit , and allow to turn until it stops, then mark top center of wheel.

3. Move balance weights to 90 deg. from mark and diametrically opposite.

4. Move weights equally towards mark approx.3 mm at a time until assembly remains static in any position. Remount assembly on to wheel mount and redress wheel before putting into operation.

Pulley Forming Machine

Pulley forming machine is an unique application of Cold form rolling where "v" belt pulley can be rolled from a flat circular bank with central hole. The pulley produced by rolling is known as Split pulley. The converntional way of making pulleys involves casting, machining, grooving, balancing etc. which takes several days to turn out a single pulley. On the pulley forming machine, a pulley can be rolled from a punched blank to final pulley with 40 to 50 Sec. The salient features of the machine are very high productivity, high accuracies, consistency, durability and economy. This is very useful for automobile and electric motor industries.

The Cost - benefit analysis has been enumerated below :

Cost estimates per piece on Praga Pulley Forming Machine Cost estimates per piece bythe normal Pulley forming process viz. through Casting and machining on Lathe etc.

Assumption :
No. of Pulley produced per year -2,52,000 based on 7hrs. per shift, 2 shifts/day 300 days per year and floor to floor time of 1 minute.

Assumption :
No. of pulleys produced per year - 30,000 based on 7 hrs/2shifts/day,300 days per year and machining time of 8.3 minutes.
Material cost per piece

Rs. 13.90

Rs.24.00

Fixed cost per piece

Rs. 4.10

Rs. 7.00(machining)
Total cost per piece

Rs.18.00

Rs. 31.00

Selling price per piece

Rs.35.00*

Rs.35.00*

Gross Profit per piece

Rs.17.00

Rs. 4.00
Total Gross Profit

Rs.42.84 lakhs

Rs.1.20 lakhs

Hence, due to the high productivity and low cost of operation the Groos profit of manufacturing Pulleys on Praga Pulley Forming machine is 36 times than that by the conventional process of casting / machining etc.

* In Praga's machine, No dynamic balancing required while for cast pulley extra expenses required for dynamic balancing.
